2011 In Review

By Stacy Macaulay, President SLMOT

I am truly blessed to be the President of this amazing club! We have such caring and giving members, I am awed each and every day of the service and love that people are sharing with one another. From the message board, to the conversations at our activities, I am always hearing support and understanding from amazing women. A mother of new born twins commented to me that her husband said an evening with us at a nursing class was the best two hours she had ever spent! Yeah, that is what we are here for, to help you through the hard times and laugh with you through the good ones.

2011 has been a rough year for several of our members. From lost jobs, broken families, health issues, and just the overall stress of being a mother of twins, we have been through a lot. I hope as a member you know that you are not alone. We are here to support and guide you. We are only a call or an email away. I read the message board and am so pleased with the rapid replies from members that are willing to help and give advice. I know that often we just need to know that we are not alone and that there is somebody out there that understands what you are going through and wants to be your cheering section.

We have had a lot of good times in 2011! In February we had our Safe Kids Fair booth at the South Towne Expo Center. Mothers volunteered to hand out fliers and cards and talk with interested families that stopped by. Masami came up with some awesome crafts for the kids to make while their parents chatted.

We had the biggest event of the year in April as we celebrated National Multiple Birth Awareness month. The event started with a breakfast that was followed by a walk around Sugar House Park. We ended with an Easter Egg hunt for all of the kids.

We had families from all over the state join us in this amazing event. Tee shirts were worn by all and the red balloons that we carried made the event a day to remember.
In May we had our Spring Super Sale and Boutique. It is so fun to see all of the items set out ready for the sale. Boy they sure do go fast! You have to have your game on if you want to get the best stuff! It is amazing to see so many mothers out there selling their stuff and buying new stuff for their little ones.

Summer brought our big family picnic with a bounce house and a whole lot of fun. We had our raffle and some great items were won by a few lucky members. We had fun at Liberty Park playing in the water and a couple of zoo dates. It was also fun to meet at different member’s houses to let the kids play and the adults get to know each other a little better.
We can’t forget our Halloween Bash! With little ghosts and goblins all dressed up for a dinner and games followed by our trunk or treat fun. Dads throwing candy in the parking lot for the little ones to race to get. It was a sight to be seen.

November and December were spent helping two families in our club for Sub for Santa. Without the generosity of our wonderful club these families would have been without this holiday season. Once again the members came through and the families were so very grateful for the loving support of our club.

Can you say Freezer Meals! What fun we had making big batches of food to divide and share. What a life safer this has been. Just grab a meal out of the freezer and pop it in the oven, pretty much a no brainer for those days when you can’t deal with one more thing.

Our education programs have been a wonderful asset to our club. New Mom Seminar and nursing classes have been going on this year for our new members to learn some tips on how to make life a little bit easier. 2012 will bring even a bigger range of classes, focusing on a variety of age groups and topics to reach out to all of our members. We also have an on going book club for those avid readers that like to escape into a wonderful story once in a while.

We would like 2012 to be even better than 2011. If you have ideas of how to improve our club, we would love to hear from you! We are here for you and would like to help out where we can. May 2012 bring you health and happiness.
